We work on the house a lot.
Is that normal for any house or surburban homes in particular?
As a past log cabin, woodland dweller, and prior to that a Park Sloper, Co-op-er, I am often amazed at how much work this place takes to keep nice. And it is nice. Really nice. I love it, and I love what we've done with it, but WOW.
A lot of work!
"What were we smoking when we bought this place?", we often ask ourselves. I mean, we love it here, and we should. It's beautiful, funky, comfy, quaint, tropically, and all around terrific. But when I'm scrunched over, weeding, sweat-soaked hair stuck to my dirty face, I list in my head the huge number of projects we've done on this place in 2 short years, (many months of which we've been away). It's a long, (albeit satisfying) list.
Shawn and I enjoy good, creative do-it-yourself projects, broken up by yummy lunches from the grill, bike rides to sunset, crossword puzzles with ice coffees, glasses of wine and naps under the live oak, and endless numbers of dips in the pool.
So, I made a sweaty, heady, "Completed Projects" list in my head again today and I feel I must list them here.
Why? I dunno. Would it be weird?
O.K., so I'll just name a few. The biggies. The ones I love most and am most proud of...
with adjectives of course.
Here goes:
The Patio (big, brick, pink, plaza-like, smooth, finger crushing, shady, gorgeous).
The Fence (unique, protective, cedar, funky, a partner to the patio).
The Pond (Cool, alive, black, shiny, bubbly, meditative).
The Paint (bold, hot, latin-flavored, neat, detailed, sharp).
The Sod (cool, dark, deep, green, clean, comfortable, thirsty) - Shawn says, "Life began after sod".
This really is the short list, but I must go take a dip and stir-fry some veggies before I continue.
